Washington DC Baseball

So the Expos are moving to Washington, DC and now they need a new name. If you go to this site, you can suggest a new name for the team. I came up with a pretty good name, The Washington Whips. It has plenty of political and promotional appeal. Republicans and Democrats each have their party whip and every time a Whip pitcher strikes someone out they could play a whip crack sound. Devo could play on opening day. Their mascot could be either an Indiana Jones type or a dominatrix. It’s the perfect name, so go now and suggest it so they don’t end up as the Washington Monuments.

The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien in 2009

Best idea ever. Just don’t change.

NBC’s “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno will retire at the end of his current five-year contract in 2009 and be replaced by “Late Night” host Conan O’Brien, the network said on Monday. O’Brien signed a new contract on Monday that guarantees he will assume the job as host of America’s top-rated late night talk show, “The Tonight Show,” sometime during the 2009 season.

I asked her which songs she liked and she replied, “i cant actually remember as i have only listened to little bits.” Bizarre.

I Moved?

I found this on the Forest Greens website today.

Ben Garvey
An acoustic rock artist who previously ran the Open Mic Night at the Treehouse. He has since moved away to California. But, I’m assuming he’s continuing his career. So if you live out West, visit his awesome site!!

Interesting.

Copernicus Couldn’t Pick the Dead Celebrity

My experiment in predicting celebrity deaths ended in failure last week. No one on the list died in the timeframe I predicted, so I have to wonder what went wrong. I think my method of choosing the sample celebrities was flawed in that I used the first 50 celebrities I thought of (25 men and 25 women). A better way would be to take a larger group of celebrities (2000 or so) and use a computer to pick 50 random ones out of that group. That way, any biases I have toward younger or healthier celebrities could be factored out.

Survivor Starts This Week

Is anyone wondering what I’ve been doing since I stopped doing the open mic? I’ve been watching the first season of Survivor on DVD. Stop laughing. I just got through the 3rd DVD and Sean is definitely the dumbest person I’ve ever seen on the show.

The new season starts this Thursday and hopefully it will be better than the awful All-Star Survivor.

I’ve also been working on a simple online game that I think will be kind of fun. It’s a cross between Survivor and Reservoir Dogs.

Nullsoft Scriptable Install System

I really wish I had found this two years ago. It’s a scripting language that lets me write a self installer for any program I write. It’s going to make things a lot easier for me at work.

Flickr review

I found a pretty cool photo sharing site called Flickr. You can upload photos and share them with people, but the coolest feature is the ability to tag images with keywords and search other people’s albums using those tags. For example, you can search for cloud, red, piano, etc. It’s better than Google Image Search because the photos are so much better. If you don’t want everyone viewing your photos you can hide them from the public as well.

Flickr also lets you do a bunch of cool things like syndicate images (as you can see to the right of this page) and build applications like this one that generates desktop wallpapers based on the tag you enter.

The downside is that you are only allowed to upload 10MB of photos per month unless you upgrade to the pro account. If you invite 5 or more people you get a free pro account for 3 months.
