The first round of Odd Man Out has just finished. Left alive are Mr Green, Mr Orange, and Mr Red. Who will come out on top? We’ll probably find out tomorrow.

The first game of Odd Man Out just started. Each player has been assigned an identity, which will remain secret during the game. Moves should be made before midnight tomorrow.

Using NSIS I created a self extracting .exe file that installs all my games for you and puts links in the program list.

Update: We now have 4 players 5 players for the first game. I’d like to have a few more so hurry up and join! If we get 6 by the end of the day (10/11/04) I’ll start the game

Tomorrow I’m running in the Pine Hill 5K. I used to run in high school, but I was never any good. My goal is just to finish the thing and beat most of the old people. A lot of my friends are/were decent runners and I bet my friend Mike $50 that he couldn’t run it in under 23 minutes. At the time of the bet I was sure he couldn’t do it, but that was 3 weeks ago and he’s been out running every single day since then.

I’ve been out running five six times since the bet started and definitely noticed improvement. I’m sure the coming cold weather will kill off my running habit soon, but hopefully I can restart it in the Spring.

Update: I lost the bet. Mike finished the race in about 22:30, but he vowed not to run his mouth off again. My time sucked, but I ran the whole way and finished in about 27:17 27:27.

I’ve been working on a multiplayer, web-based game for a while now. If you want to give me a hand testing it, check it out here.

When the game starts, each player is assigned an identity. Your real identity should remain secret throughout the game. Each round you can decide to shoot someone else in the game. Send public and private messages to other players to work on a strategy. When the round is over, all the shots are added up and you’re out if you’ve been shot an odd number of times. To mix things up, you can decide to shoot yourself or not shoot anyone.

The last man standing wins. In the event of a two player finish, the player with the most points wins. You get a point for making kills during the game, but if your kill gets help from other players then you split the point.

Give it a try. You have to be registered and logged in to play.

If we listed all the problems in south jersey, this would probably rank somewhere around #1387.

MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. (AP) South Jersey’s age-old identity crisis has become a federal case for two rival magazine publishers.

One periodical that calls itself South Jersey Magazine is suing a company that was planning to produce another publication by the same name. The lawsuit filed last month in U.S. District Court in Camden drags in a third publication the defunct South Jersey Magazine.

For the record, still another similarly named publication, SJ Magazine which calls itself, right on its cover, “South Jersey’s Magazine” is not part of the litigation.

Keeping the parties straight in the case is challenging, to say the least. And the dispute echoes a long-standing question about Garden State geography and culture: Exactly what is South Jersey?

Somehow I get SJ Magazine, which is a glorified restaurant and golf guide. It must be free since I don’t remember paying for it.

Welcome to Odd Man In, a game of guns and game theory.

Your objective is to be the last man left alive in the game. To do that you’ll need to outwit the rest of the players in the game.

After a certain number of people join the game, player identities are assigned and the game begins in round 1.

A player identity is your name and avatar (i.e. Mr Red, Mr Blue, etc.)

Your real identity is not revealed and should remain secret during the game. If you reveal your identity inside or outside the game, you will be booted from the game immediately even if you are lying about your identity.

If you die, you are allowed to publicly state that you are dead unless you are among the final fifteen players. Anyone in the final 15 must keep their alive-or-dead status to themselves until the game ends.

During the game you can send private messages to individual players or public messages to everyone in the game. You can make your messages anonymous if you’d like. Each round you will decide to shoot someone, no one, or yourself. Not making a move is considered the same as not shooting anyone.

Note: The following rules should be followed when sending messages to other players.
1. Do not spam the same messages over and over or with the intention of pushing messages off the page.
2. Do not send any obscenely sexual or graphic messages to other players. Taunting is allowed, but harassment is not. If someone sent you a message that you think violates these rules, let me know.

Once the game starts there will be a period of 2-3 days before the first round ends. After that rounds will end every weekday at 11:59PM EST (8:59PM PST).

A player dies if he gets shot an even number of times unless there are only 3 players left. If there are three players left then an odd number of shots will kill you. Dead players obviously don’t move on to the next round.

For the purposes of this game, 0 is not considered an even number (or an
odd one).

If you shoot someone and they die, your score increases by the total number of times they were shot. So if 2 people shoot someone, they’d
each get 2 points. If 4 people shoot someone, they each get 4 points.

In the event of a two person tie, the person with the most points wins. If they finish with the same points, then the player shot the fewest times wins. As I said above, if there are three people left then an odd number of shots will kill you.

You die if you forget to make a move. You can still choose to not shoot anyone, but in that case you’ll have to do so explicitly by selecting “No One” and clicking the “Fire” button.

Also, remember you can change who you’re shooting right up until the round ends. The drop down box should automatically select the person you’re currently shooting when you reload the page.

New: Some games may have assassinations enabled. If so, be extra careful with your identity! If you can match someone’s username with their bengarvey.com username they will die instantly! If you’re wrong, then you die.

You may only play a single account. Any player caught using multiple accounts will be banned from the current and possibly future games.

This was a sad thing to wake up to today.

Dangerfield had a strange career in show business. At 19 he started as a standup comedian. He made only a fair living, travelling a great deal and appearing in rundown joints. Married at 27, he quit to earn a better living.

He returned to comedy at 42, appeared on the Ed Sullivan show seven times and on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson more than 70 times. After his standout film role in Caddyshack, he began starring in his own movies.

Back in 1995 Dangerfield entered the world of cyberspace, becoming one of the first entertainers to have a personal website. The joke of the day it offered yesterday, on the day he died: “I tell ya I get no respect from anyone. I bought a cemetery plot. The guy said, `There goes the neighbourhood!'”

No matter how bad his movies were (Back to School, Meet Wally Sparks, Ladybugs), you always knew Rodney would would make you laugh. With the exception of Caddyshack, I usually felt like I was watching Rodney make the movie instead of the movie itself.

There’s no being on the fence with the guy. You either loved him or you wouldn’t know comedy if it fell from the sky.
