Open Mic Recap @ The Living Room (So Long Crissy)

The rumors are true. Tonight was Chrissy’s last night behind the coffee counter at the Living Room open mic. She will definitely be missed.

It was a strange night for me in Collingswood. I debuted a new song called “99%” about getting abducted by an alien booze cruise. Screwing it up was a possibility and I made sure that happened. I don’t entirely blame myself because I couldn’t hear my voice at all. Sometimes you can’t hear yourself very well, but rarely does your voice just disappear (or is the proper term “disapphear?”). Getting the sound right is a tough job especially after I followed a mini-band with a drum kit, so I’ll let it slide. As far as I could tell, no one puked after the first song so that’s a good sign. I also played “The Genius of it All” and “I Hope I Die on the Moon,” which got great crowd reactions despite my mangling the end of the first verse of IHIDOTM on guitar. What the hell was I thinking? Maybe I am being too hard on myself, because a number of people seemed to be into it anyway. Thanks.

Roz sounded really good tonight. I noticed when walking up to the Living Room that his voice carries really far outside when the door is open. Keith Lewis, August Sky, Matt “how the hell does he play like that” Winn and Roz’s friend Bris or Brin (sorry, I don’t remember exactly) played great sets. I also really liked the one song Renata’s played while the mini-band (I forget their name) set up. Her strong voice sounds like Snow White’s from the Disney cartoon, but in a good way.

As requested by Glenn Mason my bengarvey.com title graphic now links back to the index page. That should make browsing a little more intuitive.

One thing that has always bugged me about the site is the splash page and the “pn_714/html” on all the URLs. They are there because I am a dumbass and installed PostNuke sloppily. If I fix it I know I’ll break a lot of outside links, but I’m worried if it will break something inside the site, too. I might make the change some time this weekend.

I added another cool picture of Cinco the Chihuahua.

mod_rewrite, baby, mod_rewrite. Does just what you need, and more.

  2. Yeah, I’m not too worried about breaking outside links, because I can fix those.
