BM Rant on CleanFilms

CleanFilms.com is a Netflix like service where you can rent DVDs through the mail. The only difference is that these movies have had all foul language and nudity edited out. The BM Rant mines the user feedback page for some unintentional comedic gems.

Team Fortress 2

When I was in college I played a lot of PC games like Quake, Age of Empires, Half-Life, etc. Back then there was a game coming out called Team Fortress 2 that was the sequel to a popular Quake mod and it looked awesome. The game was originally announced in 1999, but it never came out. Today I saw a trailer for the game, so I guess they decided to revive it.

I remember John Carmack of Id saying they’d have early Pixar quality (Toy Story) real timke 3D rendering on the desktop in a few years. Based on the trailer it looks like it’s close.

I love the cartoonish style. Evidently the whole trailer was rendered using the actual game engine. It looks a lot better if you watch it somewhere other than YouTube, too.

Dhani Jones on Colbert Report

Anyone see Eagles linebacker Dhani Jones on the Colbert Report the other night? It wasn’t bad, but I think the interview could have been better. I thought maybe Dhani was promoting a book based on his introduction, but he was just booked as an oddity (NFL Linebacker writes poetry!). He should have at least read some of his work. Instead he made up a silly one using the titles of some books Colbert had lying around.

Also, Dhani said Dallas is going to do really well with TO this year while TO is saying he can’t wait to beat the Eagles. Hmm… Sounds like the birds are in for a 9-7 season or worse.

Odd Man In Stuff

Looks like the Odd Man In forum was hacked again by phpBB hackerbots. It’s ridiculous how many security holes are found in that software and I’m not going to bother fixing it. I may open a new forum, but it won’t use phpBB.

Mark Garvey’s Songs 4/4: Plastic Girl

I decided this couldn’t wait until Friday. It’s the grand finale of my Dad’s songs and I’m sure you guys will love it. Dad fell in love with it as soon as he heard it and he probably played it 200 times the last few years of his life. It was the first song I tried to find a recording of by him and I originally thought I’d only be able to copy it from the Garvey Corp Gong Show. I was psyched when I listened to my Dad’s minidisc recorder and found a copy there.

Interestingly, we always thought Plastic Girl was by Todd Snider, but looking it up today I found it’s by a guy named Mel McDaniel (link to that version). My Dad plays it the Todd Snider way.

So here it is, my Dad’s version of Plastic Girl.

4 Years of bengarvey.com

I just remembered that it was about four years ago that I set up this site. Here’s a link to the first post I made and here’s another to the 2nd post I made. It was about going to the now-closed open mic at The Point.
