Retiring the Open Mic

Hopefully the Living Room’s open mic retirement will be like Michael Jordan’s. Not his real retirement tonight, but his fake ones of years past. I had a lot of fun going to the Wednesday night open mics over the last year or so and it’s a shame the owner is putting it to sleep.

I actually have the signup sheet with me, so here are all of tonight’s performers.

1. Dylan O’Hearn
2. Keith Lewis
3. John Shaughnessy
4. Ben Garvey (he sucked)
5. Sarah Allen
6. Willie Tapps
7. Chris
8. Danielle
9. Ryan
10. Dom

There was one other guy who did a cover of Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes”, but he wasn’t on the sign up list and I don’t remember his name. Update: His name is Ryan. Sarah Allen borrowed my guitar for her cover of REM’s “Its The End Of The World As We Know It(And I Feel Fine).” I just put new strings on my guitar and they sound way too thin. Sarah sounded good despite the cold she keeps mentioning. The highlight of the night was definitely the set by Willie Tapps. Danielle backed him up with her flute during one really good song, but Roz’s overactive righteous preacher on top of Willie’s “Glory Glory Hallelujah” overshadowed everything tonight. Roz harangued us about scoring crack and living in sin, a fitting end to the Living Room open mic.

Nice goal Mark. Took you long enough.

  3. I can’t imagine it will be gone for good. The summer is the busiest time. Maybe it will come back when they hire another employee.
